YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS!

Giacomo Ponzone Foundation (FGP) was established with the intention of remembering and honoring the memory of Giacomo Ponzone, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of only 25 due to Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy — a genetic disease that is difficult to detect and causes sudden death in seemingly healthy young individuals.

The Giacomo Ponzone Foundation pursues two important goals.

The first concerns the research and study of left ventricular Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy, a rare cardiac condition. The second focuses on supporting deserving and financially challenged students enrolled at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, particularly in the Faculty of Economics and Business Management, where Giacomo had graduated. The aim is to provide opportunities to students who might not otherwise be able to pursue their studies.

The Giacomo Ponzone Foundation has formed an important partnership with the Centro Cardiologico Monzino to support research projects focused on Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy — a condition about which little is still known and for which prevention remains limited.

This disease is characterized by two main clinical manifestations: the onset of malignant arrhythmias and a progressive replacement of healthy heart tissue with fatty tissue. It has been discovered that one of the factors that can cause Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy is a dysregulation of the normal calcium content within cardiac cells.
The goals of FGP’s first project, carried out through the Centro Cardiologico Monzino, are therefore:

To understand the new calcium-dependent molecular mechanisms responsible for the disease;
To use FDA-approved molecules to counteract it.
