LIFE. Hollywood è a monumental work by TASCHEN celebrating the golden age of Hollywood through the most iconic photographs published in the weekly LIFE magazine from 1936 to 1972. In two volumes, the book brings together hundreds of meticulously curated images from the archives of the famous American magazine, offering a unique glimpse into the most glamorous decades of cinema.
The first volume (1936-1972) is a collection of the most iconic photographs published in LIFE magazine.
The first volume (1936–1950) chronicles the Golden Age of Hollywood, populated by stars such as Bette Davis, Clark Gable, Sophia Loren, Marlon Brando, Paul Newman and Brigitte Bardot. LIFE not only immortalises the glamour and glitz of those years, but also documents the collective work behind the scenes: scriptwriters, costume designers, directors and coaches who helped create the cinematic illusion.

The second volume (1950–1972) explores the birth of New Hollywood, when traditional studios gave way to independent productions, bolder films and a greater diversity of faces and voices. The photos show legendary sets from films such as The Godfather, Guys and Dolls and The Ten Commandments, along with rare shots of the stars' private lives.
